Cylinder Block No. 1 in the version for the youngest children offers a first experience of a shape belonging in exactly one opening. Each cylinder is lifted by its knob between thumb and two fingers, precisely the grip a pencil will later ask for, and a cylinder that does not fit says so without a word from an adult. The block invites repetition, and toddlers repeat gladly. It opens the way to the cylinder blocks of the sensorial shelf, where the same movement is asked for with far finer differences between the sizes. Made for children up to three years.
