Addition Strip Board

The Addition Strip Board makes every sum up to eighteen something a child can lay out and see. Two strips placed one after the other end at a number on the grid, so the result is read from the board rather than guessed. Leaving the first strip where it is and changing only the second lays out all the sums that reach the same total, one under the other, so the pattern is seen instead of explained. Going through the combinations systematically and writing them down is what settles the addition facts into memory, and the same way of working returns later with subtraction.
