Addition Tables Booklet
The addition tables for one to nine again, but with the second addends shuffled into random order. Everything a child leaned on in the first booklet is gone: the answer above no longer predicts the answer below, so each fact has to be fetched rather than counted on from the last one. This is the booklet where memorisation actually happens, and it is also the one that shows an adult which facts were never really known. Forty booklets. Paper, for ages 3 to 12.
How to present it
Place the booklet on a table with a sharpened pencil. Ensure the child has mastered Addition Tables Booklet 1 and can form numerals correctly.
- 1Open to the first page showing equations for 7. Read the first problem aloud: 'Zero plus seven equals...'
- 2Write the answer in the blank space, forming the numeral carefully
- 3Continue through all combinations for 7, working systematically down the page
- 4Move to the section for 8, following the same careful process
- 5Review completed work, checking for accuracy and neat writing
