Lay out control cards (image with label) in a column on the left side of the work mat. Place picture cards in the center column and label cards in a basket to the right.

Begin with 3-4 familiar animal groups. Name each control card: 'This is a pride of lions.'
Use clear, precise language and pause between each presentation - 2
Match picture cards to control cards, naming each: 'Pride of lions' as you place it
Let the child self-correct by comparing to the control card - 3
Once pictures are matched, read each label card and place below corresponding pictures
Run your finger under the text as you read to model left-to-right progression - 4
Remove control cards and invite child to match pictures and labels independently
Store completed sets separately so child can track their progress
