Circles is one of the first placing exercises a toddler can finish alone: a round shape goes into a round opening, and nothing else fits. Because a circle drops in at whatever angle it is held, nothing has to be turned or lined up first, which is why this work comes before shapes that fit one way only. That single certainty is what builds the grip, the aim and the willingness to try again after a miss. Made for the shelf of a child under three, and usually taken up again and again over several weeks.
“Children display a universal love of mathematics, which is par excellence the science of precision, order, and intelligence.”
