About

Three part cards for clothes, with a real photograph of each. Clothing vocabulary is learned in a hurry every morning and rarely looked at properly, so a set of cards does something the wardrobe does not: it separates the garment from the rush. It also pairs naturally with the dressing frames, where the same words come back attached to a fastening. Picture, label and control card. Durable plastic. In English.

The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.

These laminated cardstock cards capitalize on the 3-6 year old's sensitive period for language by presenting clothing vocabulary through clear photographs that children can match, sort, and label. The three-part card format, with its picture cards, separate labels, and control cards, allows children to work independently with clothing vocabulary, building confidence in reading through familiar items they dress themselves with each day. The laminated surface ensures these cards withstand repeated handling as children trace letters and match words to images. By focusing on clothing items, these cards connect language learning to the child's developing independence in dressing, making abstract reading skills concrete through garments they touch and wear. The photographic images on each card provide exact representations of real clothing, helping children bridge their tactile experiences with shirts, pants, and shoes to the symbolic world of written language.

Activity Guide

How to present it

Follow the Montessori method of presentation for optimal child development.

4 steps to mastery
Preparation

Place the picture cards in a row on a mat. Keep label cards in a separate basket and control cards stacked face-down for later checking.

  1. 1

Introduce 3-5 clothing picture cards, naming each garment clearly

Choose items the child wears regularly for stronger connection
  2. 2

Show how to match each label card to its corresponding picture

Let the child read known letters or trace unfamiliar ones
  3. 3

Once matched, introduce the control cards for self-checking

Demonstrate checking one pair at a time to maintain focus
  4. 4

Invite the child to work with the remaining cards independently

Start with 6-8 cards and gradually increase as competence grows
