Container Bench

The Container Bench is made of birch plywood and puts four storage compartments and a seat into a single piece of furniture. In a cloakroom a child sits down to change shoes and puts them straight into a compartment; in a group room the same bench works as low seating and as a store for material. Because the compartments sit within reach of a seated child, the whole arrival routine happens in one place, without an adult fetching or carrying anything. Placed in a row along a wall, several benches give each child a compartment to recognise as his own. Sturdy furniture for early years spaces where floor area is scarce.
