The Globe Of The Continents gives every continent a colour of its own, the same colour it will carry later on the puzzle maps. A child who has already felt land and water on the first globe now sees that the land is divided, and the hand turning the sphere does most of the explaining. Work starts with a finger following the edge of one continent and finding it again after a turn of the globe; names are given afterwards, a few at a time, once the shapes are familiar. The colours carry the check with them, so a continent named here is recognised again on the flat map without a new lesson. The second globe in the Montessori geography sequence, used from three years.
“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.”
