The frame is the last material before multiplication becomes pen and paper, and the risk at that point is that a child learns the movement of the beads as a procedure and stops reading what it means. Graded problems keep pushing into numbers big enough that the procedure alone will not carry them, which is what keeps the understanding attached. Large bead frame sold separately. How to present it
Follow the Montessori method of presentation for optimal child development.
Place the Large Bead Frame on a work mat with the storage box to the right. Select the first activity card showing a simple 2-digit addition problem. Ensure all beads are positioned at the top of each wire before beginning.

Read the first addend and slide corresponding beads down: green units first, then blue tens
Count aloud initially to reinforce quantity-symbol association - 2
Read the second addend and slide additional beads down on the same wires
Use a different finger for the second addend to maintain distinction - 3
Count the total beads on each wire, starting with units
If units exceed 9, demonstrate the exchange process slowly - 4
Exchange 10 unit beads for 1 ten bead when necessary
Verbalize: 'Ten units make one ten' during exchanges - 5
Record the sum on paper or check against the activity card
