What the child does
Leaf Shapes Cards in a child's hands
Leaf Shapes Cards carry the outlines of leaves as they occur in nature, drawn clearly enough for a young child to compare one edge with another. Matching card to card, and later a card to a real leaf found outdoors, trains the eye for detail and gives the child words for what was until then simply green. A pair that does not belong together shows itself the moment the two outlines are set side by side, so the checking stays with the child. The work fits the botany shelf from about three years and leads on to naming the parts of a plant.
