Multiplication Board turns each table into something laid out by hand: beads dropped into the holes, the number card set at the top, the answer counted in front of the child. Repeating a table this way stores the facts through movement and pattern rather than recitation, and an error shows up as a gap in the array. After a table has been built several times the answer starts arriving before the beads are counted, and that is the point at which written work can take over. Once counting to ten is secure it takes its place in the mathematics area, from age three.
“Children display a universal love of mathematics, which is par excellence the science of precision, order, and intelligence.”
