Object Permanence Box: Ball Drop with Tray for Infants
A box with a hole in the top and a tray beneath it: the ball goes in, disappears, and rolls out onto the tray a moment later. That moment is the whole material. Somewhere near eight months a baby stops treating a vanished object as gone and starts waiting for it, and this box gives them the experience over and over, on demand, at the exact age the expectation is forming. How to present it
Follow the Montessori method of presentation for optimal child development.
Place the box on a low table or mat at the child's working height. Position the sliding tray in its closed position. Have the ball ready in a small basket to the right of the box.
