Object Permanence Box With Tray

Object Permanence Box With Tray answers the question a baby asks first: where did it go? The ball disappears into the opening and reappears on the tray, and after enough repetitions the child stops being startled and starts expecting it, which is where object permanence begins. Because the tray catches the ball instead of letting it roll across the floor, the baby can pick it up and begin again without an adult fetching anything, and the cycle repeats as long as the interest lasts. Reaching, letting go and following the ball with the eyes also link hand and gaze, work made for the first three years, once a child can sit steadily and use both hands.
