The Shoe Lacing Frame isolates one step out of getting dressed: threading a lace through the eyelets and tying it off. The child works from the bottom upwards and from left to right, crossing the lace over itself, drawing it tight and finishing with a bow. A skipped eyelet or a lace left slack shows in the finished work, so the child can see what went wrong and unthread it without being told. Once the movement is secure here it carries straight over to the child's own shoes. It belongs on the practical life shelf from about three years.
“The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, 'The children are now working as if I did not exist.'”
