Subtraction Working Charts

Subtraction working charts carry the child from calculating every answer to simply knowing it. Having worked the operation through with material, the child now finds the difference on the chart, checks the result and needs the chart less and less. The chart is also the control of error, so a whole page of subtraction can be checked and corrected without an adult reading it first. They belong to the memorisation stage of mathematics, following the subtraction strip board, in the three to six group.
