Table Of Pythagoras, also known as the Sensorial Decanomial, turns the multiplication table into a pattern the child builds instead of recites. Squares and rectangles are laid row by row until the whole table stands as one figure, with the square numbers running along the diagonal. Each gap accepts only one piece, so a rectangle that leaves an edge sticking out is the wrong one and the growing figure corrects the child while the work goes on. The child works with it first as a construction and only later reads it as multiplication. Mathematics material for a 3 to 6 classroom.
“The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, 'The children are now working as if I did not exist.'”
