The Wooden Tray in the medium size, 25 by 28 cm, turns a handful of loose objects on a shelf into one piece of work a child can carry. Carrying it is practice in itself: both hands on the sides, eyes on the load, a slow walk to the table and a quiet set down. Once on the table the tray marks out where the work belongs, so the pieces of one activity stay together instead of spreading across the surface and mixing with somebody else's. Putting it back full closes the cycle without an adult prompting it. Standard equipment in a prepared environment from about three years.
