1st Red Cylinder

The 1st Red Cylinder is a single piece from the red block of knobless cylinders, offered on its own so that a lost or damaged cylinder does not put the whole set out of use. In the complete block the child grades the cylinders by eye alone, with no knobs to guide the fit, which is what sharpens visual discrimination of size. The finished row is its own check, because one cylinder out of place breaks the even step from largest to smallest and the eye catches it without an adult saying anything.
