About

Two stainless steel bowls set into a plywood table at 40 cm, one for washing and one for rinsing, so a child runs the whole sequence rather than a token part of it. Real dishes, real water and a real consequence when the water goes on the floor are what make this practical life work rather than play: the child is doing something the household actually needs. The height is the point, since a child at a sink on a stool is being helped, and a child at their own table is not. Table 120 x 45 x 40 cm.

Education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words but by experiences upon the environment.

The Montessori Method

The Dish Washing Table serves as a dedicated workspace where toddlers engage in real-life care of their environment through authentic dishwashing experiences. At child-height with dual stainless steel bowls, this washing station enables complete independence in a practical life activity that directly connects to the child's home life.

  • Water transfer and pouring control through filling bowls at appropriate levels
  • Sequential processing by following wash, rinse, and dry order
  • Hand-eye coordination through scrubbing and handling wet dishes
  • Care of environment by maintaining a clean workspace

The table's design with separate washing and rinsing bowls mirrors adult dishwashing setups, allowing children to follow a logical sequence while developing order and concentration. Through repeated use of the Dish Washing Table, young children refine their gross and fine motor movements while experiencing the satisfaction of completing a full cycle of work. The stainless steel bowls provide immediate sensorial feedback through water temperature and the sounds of washing, making each dishwashing session a rich learning experience that builds both physical coordination and mental focus.

5 steps to mastery
Preparation

Position the table against a wall near water access. Place a small pitcher for water transport, child-safe dish soap, sponge, dish brush, drying rack, and towel on or near the table. Fill one bowl with warm soapy water and the other with clean rinse water.

  1. 1

Child carries dirty dishes to the washing table using a tray

Start with unbreakable items like wooden spoons or metal cups
  2. 2

Wash each item in the soapy water bowl using circular motions

Model slow, deliberate movements to encourage focus
  3. 3

Transfer washed item to rinse bowl and remove all soap

Point out soap bubbles to develop visual discrimination
  4. 4

Place rinsed items on drying rack or dry with towel

Demonstrate gentle patting motions for drying
  5. 5

Empty bowls using pitcher, wipe table dry

This cleanup phase is part of the complete work cycle
