Geometric Cards

Geometric Cards give the geometric solids a flat counterpart: the child places each solid on the card that shows its shape in two dimensions. Work starts with one solid at a time, turned in the hands to find the face that will sit flat, and only then carried along the cards to look for the outline it matches. Once the solid is set down, its base either covers the drawn shape or overlaps it, so the child checks the choice without asking an adult. Moving between a form held in the hand and the same form drawn on paper is the step that later makes plane geometry readable. Used alongside the solids from about three years.
