About

One plastic stand for the geometric solids, sold on its own. Three of the solids have no flat face at all: the sphere, the ovoid and the ellipsoid cannot be put down without rolling, and a solid that rolls off the shelf is a solid nobody offers. The stand is what lets them be looked at, compared and returned to a place of their own. It is the part that gets left on a windowsill. The geometric solids are a separate item.

The senses, being explorers of the world, open the way to knowledge.

The Montessori Method

The Plastic Stand for Geometric Solids addresses a fundamental challenge in the Sensorial curriculum: how to present three-dimensional forms for careful examination.

  • Develops ability to examine three-dimensional forms without distraction
  • Builds visual discrimination of curved surfaces and geometric properties
  • Strengthens hand control through deliberate rotation of solids
  • Enhances concentration by eliminating rolling movements
Read More

Without this stand, spheres and ovoids roll away, disrupting concentration and preventing detailed observation. The circular opening cradles rounded solids at eye level, transforming potentially chaotic exploration into focused study. This simple plastic holder enables children to rotate each solid deliberately, examining curves and surfaces from multiple angles. The stand's stability allows young hands to trace the continuous surface of a sphere or compare the varying curvature of an ovoid without chasing rolling objects. By keeping geometric forms stationary yet accessible, this stand facilitates the precise sensorial impressions that build mathematical understanding. The clear plastic construction ensures visual focus remains on the solid itself, not the support structure. This practical tool exemplifies how thoughtful classroom accessories enable deeper engagement with core Sensorial materials.

Activity Guide

How to present it

Follow the Montessori method of presentation for optimal child development.

5 steps to mastery
Preparation

Place the plastic stand on a work mat. Retrieve one geometric solid (sphere, ovoid, or ellipsoid) from the geometric solids set.

  1. 1

Position the solid carefully in the circular opening of the stand

Let the child discover how the stand prevents rolling
  2. 2

Invite observation of the solid from eye level without touching

Sitting position allows best viewing angle
  3. 3

Demonstrate slow rotation of the solid while it remains in the stand

Use fingertips gently to show controlled movement
  4. 4

Trace the surface of the solid as it sits securely in the stand

Both hands can now explore since the solid won't roll away
  5. 5

Remove and replace the solid to practice careful placement

This builds precision in hand movements
