About

A mini bucket in green, powder coated metal, 6 cm high and 5,5 cm across. The supplier's own use for it is seed germination, and the size is why that works: a bucket this small holds enough soil for one seed and little enough water that a child carries it full without a second hand. Metal dents where plastic cracks, so it survives the drop that ends the experiment. The white, red and blue buckets are separate items.

Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world.

The Montessori Method

The Mini Bucket addresses the young child's need to participate in real, purposeful work within their environment.

  • Bilateral coordination through two-handed carrying
  • Gross motor control and balance while transporting liquids
  • Hand-eye coordination during pouring activities
  • Concentration through careful water transfer
Read More

Between ages one and three, children develop what Montessori called 'maximum effort' - an inner drive to carry heavy objects and test their physical capabilities. This green metal bucket with its wooden-gripped handle satisfies this developmental urge while building practical life skills. The bucket's small size respects the child's proportions, allowing genuine success in water carrying, sand play, and classroom care activities. Its sturdy metal construction withstands repeated use as toddlers practice pouring water, transporting materials, and contributing to their environment's maintenance. The comfortable wooden grip enables proper hand positioning, preparing the muscles for later writing movements. Through bucket-carrying work, children coordinate their whole body, strengthen their core, and develop the concentration needed for all future learning. The green color adds visual interest while remaining neutral enough for various activities.

Activity Guide

How to present it

Follow the Montessori method of presentation for optimal child development.

4 steps to mastery
Preparation

Place the bucket at the child's work station. For water activities, set up near a low sink or water source with a small pitcher. Place a towel underneath for spills.

  1. 1

Show the child how to grip the wooden handle with both hands

Demonstrate a firm but relaxed grip, keeping the bucket close to the body
  2. 2

Fill the bucket one-third full with water using a small pitcher

Start with less water to ensure success - increase gradually as skill develops
  3. 3

Walk slowly to the designated pouring location

Model heel-to-toe walking to minimize splashing
  4. 4

Pour the water steadily into a basin or plant

Show how tilting from the bottom creates better control than tipping from the handle
