About

Matching cards for fruits, pairs of identical photographs to find and put together. It is the same subject as the three part set at an earlier stage: no reading, no labels, just two pictures that either are the same fruit or are not. A child who can do this can do the naming work next month, and the same photographs carry over, so nothing has to be relearned. Durable plastic with rounded corners. The three part set is a separate item.

The hands are the instruments of man's intelligence.

Each laminated card presents a single, isolated fruit photograph against a clear background, respecting the child's developing visual perception and need for clarity. The matching format of these cards addresses the human tendency to categorize and organize information, while the realistic fruit photography connects abstract matching work to concrete, real-world objects the child encounters daily. The durable cardstock construction withstands repeated handling as children return to this work multiple times, each repetition deepening their discrimination skills. By presenting fruits in photographic form rather than illustrations, these cards honor the child's need for reality-based learning during the first plane of development.

How to present it

Follow the Montessori method of presentation for optimal child development.

4 steps to mastery
Preparation

Place 4-6 pairs of fruit cards face-down on a mat, ensuring pink and blue bordered cards are mixed. Keep remaining pairs stored separately for rotation.

  1. 1

Turn over one card and name the fruit clearly: 'apple'

Use precise language without adding descriptive words initially
  2. 2

Turn over a second card and name it

If no match, turn both face-down in their exact positions
  3. 3

When finding a match, place the pair together at the mat's edge

Let the child verify matches using the color-coded borders
  4. 4

Continue until all pairs are matched

Allow self-correction if a child claims non-matching fruits match
