About

Five hundred sheets, each printed in grey with fifteen problem grids of twelve half inch squares. Grey is chosen so the child's own pencil is the darkest thing on the page, and the squares are what keep a four digit column straight without anyone ruling lines. Fifteen problems to a sheet is also a deliberate number: enough that a session of stamp game work fits on one page and can be looked back at whole. Paper, for ages 3 to 12.

The hands are the instruments of man's intelligence.

The Montessori Method

Stamp Game Paper transforms abstract mathematical operations into organized visual work through its distinctive 4x4 grid format.

  • Master place value concepts through organized stamp placement in designated grid spaces
  • Develop systematic approaches to multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Build accuracy in recording mathematical work through structured problem layouts
  • Strengthen understanding of exchanging between place values using visual grid boundaries
Read More

Each problem sheet provides the exact spatial structure children need to arrange colored stamps according to place value - units, tens, hundreds, and thousands. The horizontal dividing lines on each grid create clear boundaries between numerical values, allowing children to physically manipulate stamps while maintaining mathematical precision. This paper bridges the gap between concrete manipulation of stamps and abstract numerical thinking, as children use the grids to record their stamp arrangements and carry out complex operations. The 15 problems progress systematically, enabling children to practice operations repeatedly while developing confidence in mathematical procedures. Unlike loose paper or unmarked surfaces, these structured sheets ensure that place value remains visible throughout every calculation, making the mathematical process transparent and self-correcting.

Activity Guide

How to present it

Follow the Montessori method of presentation for optimal child development.

5 steps to mastery
Preparation

Place one problem sheet on the work mat alongside the Stamp Game box. Ensure stamps are sorted by color/value in their compartments. Have a pencil ready for recording final answers.

  1. 1

Read the first problem and identify the operation symbol

Point to the operation sign and name it before beginning
  2. 2

Place stamps for the first number in the appropriate grid squares, organizing by place value

Always start with thousands on the left, moving right to units
  3. 3

Perform the operation by adding or removing stamps according to the problem

For subtraction, physically remove stamps; for multiplication, create multiple groups
  4. 4

Exchange stamps when needed (10 units for 1 ten, etc.) using the grid lines as guides

Move stamps up to the next place value row when exchanging
  5. 5

Count the final stamp arrangement and record the answer in the designated space

Double-check by counting each place value separately
